Description
Facon
The Facon is Argentina's national knife where the Gauchos made it famous as its large and simply shaped blade proved ideal for everything from killing game and livestock to repairing tack and saddles to cooking and eating the evening meal. With a blade resembling an oversized chef's knife, the Facon can trace its roots back to the 1300th century where it was widely used and carried by almost everyone, from peasants and serfs right up to the landed gentry. In fact, it was so popular that it jumped the Atlantic with the first European immigrants and established itself throughout North and South America. Now, Cold Steel is pleased to present its version of this iconic knife. Forged in the classic shape from 1090 high carbon steel with a wide, thick blade a full 12 inches long and offering extensive hand filed jimping along the back. The handle of the Facon is also traditionally hand-carved from exotic Malaysian Sal wood and is covered front and back with a nickel-plated steel bolster and pommel. Even the skid on Cold Steel's large Facon continues to follow Argentina's tradition by being molded from thick black leather that is stitched with a center seam and fitted with a nice nickel-plated steel strap.
